These scavengers can be found in British Columbia's Lower Mainland and on the southern part of Vancouver Island from spring to fall. For the the winter they migrate to the more temperate climate of California. In size they compare favourably with a bald eagle but they are much more timid. They are natures clean-up crew and pick up all the tasty morsels, which are left behind by others. Sometimes they can be seen to squabble amongst each other but rarely with other birds.
