These are the stories of two wildlife viewing tours with the same tour operator from the same harbour. it will clearly show that there are no guarantees on how successful the trip will be, but how one can make the best out of a low target trip.
Tour operators usually work together to give their guests a great experience out on the water. The first boats in the morning fan out across the water to different locations. Once contact is made they communicate their finds over the radio and everyone takes their turns watching these magnificent creatures. My first outing with this particular operator was quite target rich. Harbour seals, a colony of cormorants, sea lions and more orcas, and all in all it was a magical day.
As I mentioned before, there are no guarantees on what you will see. This outing was atypical right from the beginning. The orcas had left the area. We managed however to see some harbour seals, immature sea lions and a cow and calf humpbacks, along with some nice seascapes.
