This is a photo I always wanted to take. I drove past this spot many times before without any luck. I was on my way back from another adventure when I had to stop at a rail crossing. As the train approached the thought crossed my mind that, if I could make it on time, I finally could get that photo. The train passed and the race was on. I made it with time to spare. At first, I thought that I had missed the opportunity and had started walking back to my car, when I heard the engine’s horn as the train rolled onto the bridge.

This is perhaps the most photographed bridge in Prince George, BC, Canada. It used to be a combination railway and highway bridge until the construction of the new Fraser bridge. It now serves as the East – West rail link, as well as connecting the two rail yards in Prince George.
This photo is a composite of several individual photos. It captures more detail than any single photo could possibly offer and was made possible by modern computer technology.

For years I had dreamed of paddling the Bowron Lakes chain. Then it became reality, and I completed the circuit twice, the first time by myself and the second time with a companion. The weather for the second time around was perfect.
This particular photo shows off some of the best of what the Bowron Lakes circuit has to offer and therefore makes my list of my very favourites.

Whenever I cross from the mainland to Vancouver Island or back, I prefer to take the first available ferry of the day. It was a brisk morning on the vehicle deck, and it didn’t take very long for my fingers to feel like icicles. While the other passengers were lining up at the restaurant to have their first meal of the day, I braved the elements and got some nice shots before retreating to the warmth of the interior of the vessel.
This particular photo plays the geometry of the waves, which seem to converge toward the vanishing point, against the light and seemingly weightless, fluffy marine layer, all backlit by the rising sun. It truly is one of my very favourites.

This is another example of time well spent on a ferry crossing. This time it was late afternoon in the fall with the sun low in the Western sky as the ferry approached Nanaimo.
The random cloud pattern seems to play with the fading sunlight in the eternal struggle between light and dark.

Afternoon ferry rides can be fun as this image shows. With the sunlight from behind the camera illuminating the scene this is definitely a winner.

Canada geese taking a rest on the Nechako River during their migration South. The vivid fall colours make this one another favourite of mine.

This beautiful view presented itself after ascending the Heckman Pass, a treacherous stretch of road which connects Anahim Lake to Bella Coola on a crisp morning in early October.
The low sun illuminates the snow-capped peaks of the coastal mountain range makes this photo one of my favourites.

I drove many times past this wicker chair on the Marine Drive in Royston, BC. It had been there for several months until I finally stopped and took this photo. This photo more than anything depicts the Vancouver Island lifestyle. Somewhat laid back and enjoying the best life has to offer. Shortly after I took this shot the chair disappeared never to be seen again. And for those who are not familiar with the area I would just like to mention that the chair is facing east to catch the sunrise in this part of the world.

This is the final version of the happenings on this particular street corner on that particular day at 10:37 AM. I spotted the young lady paying for her water inside the store and I found the scene interesting, but by the time I brought the viewfinder up to my eyes I was photobombed a couple of times by traffic. By the time the traffic had passed she had had left the store and now the scene had changed. The eyes of the gentleman in the foreground talking on his phone followed the young lady as she entered his field of vision and even the young man walking along couldn’t help but to sneak a peek. The store clerk paid now attention to the store.

The hustle and bustle at another street corner in Cartagena. This photo depicts it perfectly and taxis are everywhere.

Another street corner and another scene is unfolding before my eyes. It almost looks as if this photo was staged, but my pockets are not that deep. I just recorded the random interaction of people at one point in time.

Yes, I like to mainly photograph nature and wildlife, but once in a while I love to do some street photography, too. I was downtown Prince George with my newly acquired camera. Unbeknownst to me I had accidentally pushed a wrong button and the camera acted strange. While wrestling with the camera the lady in red appeared from behind the building. Desperately I squeezed the button and much to my surprise the camera fired once and then stopped working again. I finally fixed the problem, but to this date this is one of the luckiest shots I took.
The reason this shot made my list of favourite shots is because the lady in red at that precise moment appears to be stepping out of the mural.

Market day in Prince George on a perfect September morning. Farmers and craftspeople alike are offering their wares. And then there are the side shows, the entertainment which are all part of the scene.
This is another one of my favourite photos. And why the title? Is the musician actually playing the blues or are there many different shades of blue in the picture? Or perhaps both. I leave it up to the individual viewer to make that distinction.

Eagles are some of my favourite subjects to photograph. Due to their position on top of the food chain other animals don’t like to see them and whenever they appear in the sky the other animals get nervous. But they are also very curious creatures and this particular one made a couple of fly-bys just to check me out.
Why is this one a favourite? The eagle is in a high angle turn and displays the top of its wings, where “dirty” air ruffles some of the feathers.

Take-offs and landings are some of the favourite situations when photographing eagles. As they contort themselves to gain altitude and air speed they can be seen in all sorts of interesting positions.
This eagle is taking off sideways, its target in focus, it boldly spreads its wings. That’s why it is one of my favourites.

This photo was taken at the end of a grizzly tour and capped off a fantastic day. On our way back to Telegraph Cove we encountered a bait ball, usually herrings, which were forced close to the surface by other predators below. Eagles were lining up like aircraft coming in for a landing at an airport and I got many great shots, but the sharp talons stretched out in anticipation and the focused eyes make this one is my favourite.

This is one of my earlier photos. I caught this couple sharing a meal right around lunchtime. Sometimes one gets lucky like that, but usually it takes hard work and perseverance to get shots like this.
