It was an early spring morning and I was out for a walk in Prince George's Cottonwood Park when I heard a loud splash just in front of me. A hooded merganser had just surfaced right in front of me and had a sizeable catch in it's bill. I watched through my viewfinder in amazement how this duck maneuvered its prey until it swallowed it whole After the fish was gone I went on my way again. On my way back to my vehicle I passed the same spot again. There I spied the same merganser again. He was now perched on a log and all his friends had left. Was he too heavy to fly after this sizeable meal? Perhaps but we will never know for sure.
